Ground staff at the two airports servicing Berlin are threatening to go on strike during the biggest travel industry trade show of the year, ITB Berlin.
Over 200 flights were already cancelled earlier in February when the ground staff went on strike due to pay dispute regarding a collective bargaining agreement extension. But A strike during ITB Berlin would create even more extensive challenges for the airlines as many exhibitors and visitors of the worlds largest travel trade show descend onto Berlin for the 5 day conference.
Event organizers have already advised attendees to plan to arrive at alternative airports and travel to Berlin by train or bus which is a big inconvenience as many attendees are expected from all over the world, including myself. On the bright side, if any group of people could deal with a situation like this in the best manner it would be a group consisting of travel experts. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
